Adventure. Drama
When the dashing and guileless Edmond Dantes (Jim Caviezel) is betrayed by his best friend (Guy Pearce) and wrongly imprisoned, he becomes consumed by thoughts of vengeance. After a miraculous escape, he transforms himself into the mysterious and wealthy Count of Monte Cristo, insinuates himself into the French nobility, and puts his cunning plan of revenge in action.

Y no reconocerlo sería injusto.
Pese a alguna interpretación poco atinada (ejem... Guy...) y a una primera parte vacilante, el film alza el vuelo con la aparición de Richard Harris, goza de una encomiable economía narrativa, se presenta con un clasicismo también encomiable y termina resuelto con una honesta solvencia que honra a sus creadores.
Recomendable.
