De escasa y cuidada narración, la película habla sobre todo a través de imágenes y música. No es de las mejores películas de la década, pero es un film digno de ver, eso sí, sin palomitas. Con la mente en blanco en un día que estés dispuesto/a a pensar y a dejarte llevar. Contiene una fotografía cuidada, un buen trabajo del reparto en general, sin sobresalir ni decepcionar.

Para hablar de la vida se va al principio (y tanto):
- Desde el big bang con un destello y explosión.
- Desde los dinosarios hasta su extinción.
- Desde la molécula menos compleja hasta la creación de la vida humana.
- Desde la infancia hasta una personalidad y psicologías conformadas por vivencias.
Hablar de la vida y la muerte no es sencillo. No se puede hacer con datos empíricos, o asentando criterios a través de taquillazo y efectos especiales. Hablar de algo tan grande y plasmarlo requiere ligereza, tacto, poesía...
El hermano mayor, en la ansiada búsqueda del significado de la vida, de "porques" y de su propio hermano, vive una ascensión, una visita donde su familia se reencuentra, para ver mas allá de la vida, en otra dimensión (la playa). Quizás los pitidos del ascensor sean el marcapasos y lo que se nos muestra es una experiencia cercana a la muerte. Quizás. Sean Peen sonríe con gesto agradecido casi al final. Ha sido una visita y grata visita. La he visto 2 veces y la volvería a ver. En el cine la gente salió a los 15 min. de película. Evidentemente, NO APTA PARA TODOS. El árbol de la vida se sabe independiente y controvertida, pero no aspira a más, que llegar a quien se deje llegar.
