Drama. Fantasy. Horror
After enlisting as a volunteer in a war in 14th century Japan, his wife and mother remain living in a swamp. Es fácil entrar en el mundo que propone Shindo con "Onibaba", pese a ser una película japonesa de los años sesenta. Más aún, y aún remontándose al Japón medieval, está tan bien narrada que se puede seguir incluso únicamente visualmente. El terror de Onibaba es psicológico, ancestral y folclórico. Eminentemente psicológico, se puede comprender a través de la mente de las dos mujeres protagonistas: la esposa y la madre del guerrero desaparecido en combate. Son dolores distintos, uno es inaguantable, el otro es inaguantable y, además, se mimetiza con la propia persona (el de la madre). Por tanto, esta película sobre la locura, el dolor y el terror, que bien podría pertenecer a una antología de Poe, es un acontecimiento que todo seguidor del cine de este género debería conocer, pese a su inaccesibilidad. Esto último le adquiere un valor todavía mayor.
