Hay momentos en los que esta película nos hace creer que persigue una espiritualidad profunda donde tenemos muchas preguntas y pocas respuestas, pero, al final, acaba cayendo en los tópicos más trillados de la religión: un Dios Todopoderoso que está por encima del bien y del mal, el perdón por nuestros pecados (aunque sean viles y de naturaleza inhumana...). Como filme dominguero de Antena 3 cumple su función.

Una película absurda hasta decir basta, donde, en ocasiones, se justifican acciones tan viles como la violencia, el asesinato y los malos tratos, aludiendo al clásico "todos merecemos ser perdonados por nuestros pecados". Es un relato fantástico en el que lo único salvable son las actuaciones de algunos personajes (Octavia Spencer y Sam Worthington). Ha habido un momento de esperanza en el que he creído que el filme podía mejorar, cuando Papa, interpretado por Octavia Spencer, se presenta como Dios, pero se ha esfumado rápidamente al explicar que ha adoptado la forma de una mujer porque Mack no está preparado para ver la verdadera forma de Dios. Claro, para los más clásicos y conservadores habría sido un escándalo que Dios fuera una mujer.
En definitiva, es un relato pretencioso que acaba cayendo en los tópicos más trillados de la religión, en lugar de buscar la espiritualidad y la reconciliación con la vida.
