In Japan, people still worship the Zen Buddhist poet and Buddhist Basho (1644-1694). He spent the last ten years of his life as a pilgrim on the roads, touring the different provinces of his country. During his wanderings, Bashô, considered the spiritual father of Japanese haiku poetry, brought a travel journal with poems reflecting his meditative lifestyle.
