Synopsis

Michel Poiccard (Jean-Paul Belmondo) is a former movie star and admirer of Bogart. After stealing a car in Marseille to go to Paris, he accidentally kills a police motorist. Without any remorse for what he has just done, he continues his journey. In Paris, after stealing money from a friend, he seeks out Patricia (Jean Seberg), a young American bourgeois girl, who aspires to be a writer and sells the New York Herald Tribune on the Champs Elysées; she also dreams of enrolling at the Sorbonne and one day writing for the paper. In Europe she believes she has found the freedom she did not know in America. What Michel doesn't know is that the police are looking for him for the death of the motorcyclist.
