Synopsis
In 1990, the surviving print of "Die Hermannschlacht / The Hermann('s) Battle" was discovered in a Moscow archive. This "colossal" is the oldest fully preserved feature film treating the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest, occurred in AD 9. At the beginning of the film, Hermann, the son of Segimer, was forced to serve in Rome. However he will be soon dismissed. Meanwhile in the Forest, Segestes, father of Tusnelda, spends his time on spinning intrigues of power. He makes a promise to Marobod. If Marobod succeeds in getting rid of Segimer and Hermann, Tusnelda will be his bride ("Give me your daughter Tusnelda, and I promise you will be King!"). And here Hermann returns to his home village. He and Tusnelda both feel attracted to each other. Hermann proves his love for her, by freeing Haduwic, Tusnelda's friend kidnapped & imprisoned in the Roman fortress. Against this, the Romans swear revenge...
