In the dark years of the 1930s, dance marathons became popular as a way for desperate people to compete for prize money. "La gente es el mayor espectáculo" asi comienza el trailer de la película, mientras la bola de cristal gira sin parar como el carrusel de la vida al que se refiere Gloria (Jane Fonda), en la versión española dice "torbellino". Drama existencial y agónico magníficamente dirigido e interpretado, supone una crítica a la sociedad competitiva y al capitalismo despiadado.
