Underwater es el tercer largometraje del director William Eubank, tras “Love” de 2011 y “The Signal” de 2014, le ha llegado el turno a este blockbuster, y como no, para ser fiel a su pasión, Eubank nos trae otra peli más de ciencia ficción.

Lo cierto de esta película es que más allá de tener unos buenos efectos especiales, decorados que te remiten a la nave espacial Nostromo de la película “Alien” de 1979 (como por ejemplo los pasillos de las estaciones submarinas en las que se encuentran los personajes), buen vestuario, una interpretación férrea por parte de kristen Stewart, y una banda sonora aceptable, lo demás deja algo que desear.
La peli consigue una atmosfera claustrofóbica, en cierta manera creíble, debido en parte a la oscura fotografía que tiene todo el film, con la que no estoy muy de acuerdo ya que en determinadas escenas no se aprecian bien todos los detalles. El guion hace aguas, es demasiado superficial y no nos deja empatizar por completo con ningún personaje, ni si quiera con el interpretado por el gran Vincent Cassel (que ha realizado grandes actuaciones en películas como “Los ríos de color púrpura”, “Promesas del este” y “Cisne negro”, entre otras) -vaya por delante aquí que este hombre es uno de mis actores favoritos-. Siguiendo con más comentarios en cuanto a guion, también hay que decir que en este tipo de películas siempre encontramos algún personaje que muestra su faceta cómica, pero en este caso el resultado no es otro que el de chistes metidos a calzador y sin demasiada gracia por parte de T.J Miller (que les sonará de películas como “Deadpool”). Los personajes se exponen a una cantidad de situaciones peligrosas a lo largo de todo el metraje cuyo desenlace ya hemos visto infinidad de veces en diversas películas, por lo que esta peli peca de caer en los tópicos más manidos del cine.
De todos modos, es de agradecer la intención del director y de todas las personas que se han visto involucradas de forma directa o indirecta en este rodaje. La peli entretiene, por lo que podemos decir que cumple su función lúdica. Obviamente no será una obra maestra del cine, pero el resultado es aceptable.
