Preciosa versión del final de la R.D.A. (prodromo del colapso del mundo soviético), llena de ironía y humor bizarro. Wolfgang Becker mezcla realismo y subjetivismo de manera magistral, presentándonos a una familia alemana que experimenta con cierta extrañeza y a la vez fascinación los vertiginosos cambios sociales y políticos de su nación. El reparto logra estar a la altura. Buen trabajo de cámaras y fotografía. Aunque ya es considerada un éxito, seguramente su valoración irá aumentando con los años.
