Synopsis: It’s summer break and Dezzy (15) and Oscar (14) are sent to live with their Grandma and cousin in small town Ontario after the sudden death of their older brother. Shortly after their arrival, Dezzy spots an otherworldly creature on the side of the road. She is teased by her family for this suspicious sighting, and she keeps her newfound fascination for the creature to herself. When Oscar becomes more preoccupied with their cousin Alexander (who steals and sells doormats for a living), Dezzy becomes isolated. Hesitant to confront her grief, Dezzy must assess the border she now stands on between her colourful childhood and accepting the pain of losing her brother. Set in a remote area of the Ontario woods where the people waste their time and there’s something spectacularly unsettling about the forests, ‘Middle of Nowhere’ explores grief as the unknown.
