The Woman in the Window

Mystery. Thriller Agoraphobic Dr. Anna Fox spends her days holed in in her New York City brownstone, fortifying herself with too much wine, binge watching old movies, and spying on her neighbors. In the “Rear Window” vein, Anna eventually witnesses something she shouldn’t while keeping tabs on the Russell family, the seemingly picture perfect clan that lives across the way.
Media Author Review
United States
IndieWire
"It’s the cinematic equivalent of a window not worth opening. Pull the drapes closed, it’s curtains for this one".
United States
The New York Times
"Something that intermittently looks and sounds like a good movie without ever actually being one. (...) resembles other psychological thrillers about women in distress without being terribly thrilling or psychologically insightful".
United States
Los Angeles Times
"An overstuffed, floridly preposterous psycho-thriller (...) is the kind of movie that would love to be described as Hitchcockian. But the resemblances are cosmetic at best"
United States
Variety
"Stuff keeps happening that’s so overwrought that the film, in its way, becomes a whirlpool of contrivance"
United States
USA Today
"An all-star slow-burn mystery for much of its 102-minute runtime until it suddenly decides to become a vomitous reveal-fest doling out all its twists as fast as possible. (...) Rating: ★★ (out of 4)"
United States
Boston Globe
"'Woman' is a lot trickier than 'Rear Window,' if also fairly lackluster, as the Hitchcock classic definitely is not. What the Netflix original has going for it is a stellar cast."
United Kingdom
The Guardian
"Amy Adams gives a flat performance as an agoraphobe unravelling a dull mystery in Joe Wright’s cursed misstep now being dumped on Netflix (…) Rating: ★★ (out of 5)"
United States
The Hollywood Reporter
"Effectively moody but offering frustratingly skin-deep chills, 'The Woman in the Window' underestimates its hero in more than ways than one"
United States
ABC News
"On screen, 'The Woman in the Window' just lies there, static and dreary, awaiting an animating spark that never comes. Talk about a missed opportunity"
United States
IGN
"It's empty calories that hinge on a twist that feels flat and unrewarding. It's a perfectly satisfactory thriller that uses heightened sight and sound, tethered to Anna's increased mania, to ramp up the tension"
United States
New York Post
"The long-gestating thriller 'The Woman in the Window', based on A. J. Finn’s novel, is here, and it sure is dusty (…) Rating: ★ (out of 4)"
United Kingdom
Empire
"Style is no substitute for substance (...) The ludicrous twists, hammy performances and slow pacing, all of which expose a flawed script, stop Wright’s film from ever threatening us with a good time (…) Rating: ★★ (out of 5)"
