Aunque no goza de excesivo reconocimiento, conviene revisar esta película, porque se trata del Scorsese más auténtico de los últimos diez años. A ello contribuye indefectiblemente que el guión es obra de Paul Schrader, antiguo colaborador de algunas de las mejores películas de Scorsese. Mención especial merecen los sucesivos compañeros de ambulancia de Nicolas Cage.
