A sensitive exploration of the tragic irony of the psychiatrist suffering with mental illness. Dr. Jenny Isaksson (Liv Ullman) is a psychiatrist married to another psychiatrist; both are successful in their jobs but slowly, agonizingly, she succumbs to a breakdown. Jenny is haunted by images and emotions from her past and eventually cannot function, either as a wife, a doctor or as an individual.

En realidad la sinopsis no corresponde con lo que la película es. “Una psiquiatra casada conoce a un médico en una fiesta extraña y a partir de ahí se inicia una relación particular”. Así, sin más. De este modo, el espectador comprobará que se encuentra con una obra que firmaría el mismísimo Freud. ¿El problema? Que es demasiado lenta y no avanza cuando debería.

La imagen del inicio con la paciente desnuda masturbándose es repelente. Del mismo modo, cuando le dice a su hija que se ha intentado suicidar: ¿era necesario?
La película, salvo esas dos emociones negativas, no provoca nada conmovedor. Como experimento supongo está bien. Como divertimento, no.
