Como fans de Donnie Darko y su joven director Richard Kelly, era de esperar que me iba a gustar esta película.
Me recuerda al cine setentero de terror del tipo “La Profecía” (The Omen) o su segunda parte “La maldición de Damien” (The Omen II), estamos en 1976 según el argumento de “The Box” y francamente lo refleja muy bien el director. Destacaría la fabulosa actuación del “deforme” Frank Langella. Sólo por esto y algunos efectos visuales ya merece la pena verla.

En mi opinión esta película habla del Karma y no es casual que hable del hombre del rayo, sinceramente creo que el director sigue la teoría metafísica de los siete rayos de Connie Méndez y sus famosos escritos entre los aficionados al esoterismo de los Maestros Ascendidos, aunque a lo mejor es una simple coincidencia.
El caso es que interpreto la película de esta forma: Este mundo es un purgatorio y nos están probando continuamente Maestros superiores (cada cual puede ver la parte espiritual según más le apetezca, por eso el director no define que entiende él por Maestro superior, si un extraterrestre, si Dios, si el diablo, si seres como nosotros más evolucionados, esta última es mi opción). La vida es una escuela y los Maestros utilizan nuestras circunstancias cotidianas y a las personas que nos rodean para probarnos y así que elevemos nuestro nivel de conciencia y asumamos que de nuestros actos vienen consecuencias y todos estamos más unidos de lo que pensamos y nuestros actos benefician o perjudican a los demás, no somos entes separadas. Se asciende eligiendo la opción más ética o como dice en un momento de la película “en el momento en que se antepone el bienestar colectivo al deseo individual”(dice algo así el fabuloso actor Frank Langella).
La otra dimensión a la que accede el protagonista en la escena de las tres puertas y al final de la película, es en la que viven los Maestros ascendidos y le es mostrada a Arthur (James Marsden), para que no tenga dudas. Además estar arriba no significa dejar de estar abajo porque se puede estar en ambas a un mismo tiempo, arriba estaría nuestro ser espiritual y abajo nuestro “actor” o alumno.
Está muy clara la referencia al árbol del bien y del mal, siendo Norma Lewis (Cameron Diaz) y las demás mujeres que pulsan el botón rojo un recordatorio de Eva. Siendo mujer me fastidia, pero bueno, así es la historia y no me voy a quejar.
