Synopsis
Once Familiar follows our lone protagonist, who has awoken in the middle of a forest with no recollection of who they are or why they are here. After finding a tooth on the ground beside them, they spot the light of a lantern in the distance and follow it in hopes of finding a way out of the darkness. Walking becomes running and running quickly becomes hiding in the shadows when our protagonist discovers, at the snap of a twig beneath their foot, that the person holding the lantern shares the same face, the same body - even the same tooth. Shrouded by the forest, the protagonist watches them plant the tooth into the ground and sees another person, with the same face and the same body, rise from beneath the soil before finding themselves doing the very thing they just witnessed. Like the snake that bites its own tail, they become trapped in a never-ending loop, trying to escape the same cycle that repeats itself over and over again.
