Synopsis

A dog looks to discover his purpose in life over the course of several lifetimes and owners. A devoted dog (voiced by Josh Gad) goes on a quest to discover his purpose in life over the course of several reincarnations and the many owners to whom he belonged. Along the way, he ponders such existential questions as "Why does food taste better in the trash?" and "What is the meaning of life?" Going through several names throughout his time, including Toby, Bailey and Buddy, he arrives at the answers to some of his questions via his interactions with the humans he loves, and the lessons about love that he teaches them... Based on the bestselling novel by W. Bruce Cameron.
