- Synopsis
- Joe's life-long ambition of becoming a doctor in his country of Burkina Faso is fueled by his helplessness when his father dies at a young age. He is thwarted by bureaucracy and corruption as all scholarships for medical degrees have 'allocated'. His only options are to learn Medicine in Niger, go to Europe and do secretarial work or fight the system.
The film paints a sensitive and realistic portrait of the uncertain future many young adults in Africa face. Pierre Yameogo abandons the traditional myths and wide landscapes of African cinema and created a modern film based in a modern city and adresses current issues such as corruption, 'brain drain' and censorship.
