Synopsis

In the second half of the 19th century, following the defeat of the January Uprising, Stanisław Wokulski, a wealthy Warsaw merchant, falls madly in love with the impoverished and arrogant aristocrat Izabela Łęcka. Ignoring the warnings of his friend Ignacy Rzecki, he does everything possible to win his chosen one's favor. However, his love slowly leads him into a spiral of self-destruction.
