Synopsis

Amel, from Tunisia, and Amor, from Algeria, love each other but argue constantly. Both have left their home countries to settle in France and start a family. Amel feels homesick, while Amor reflects—with a touch of self-deception—on how lucky he is to be able to raise their two daughters in a small, clean, and quiet town on the outskirts, where they attend the best school in the area. But all that could come to an end because their apartment lease won’t be renewed, and they’ve been offered social housing 45 minutes by train from the school. Mouna, the older daughter, has a strange encounter in the school hallway with none other than Charles Martel (Damien Bonnard). This legendary figure from French history becomes a sort of imaginary friend to her: a cunning, rude, and brusque friend, but a friend nonetheless who, curiously, helps her explore her fears and understand her identity.
