Pocas veces en la historia del cine han confluido de forma tan asombrosa la habilidad narrativa, la belleza de los exteriores y los recursos expresivos propios del arte de nuestro tiempò. Flaubert hubiera puesto pocas objeciones a esta recreación de su heroína Enma en la Irlanda de principios de siglo. Este clase de obras pertenecen a cineastas de raza de los que ya no hay.
