John Rambo is removed from prison by his former superior, Colonel Samuel Troutman, for a top-secret operation to bring back POW's still held in Vietnam. Rambo's assignment is to only take pictures of where the POWs are being held, but Rambo wants to get the POWs out of Vietnam. Es patriotera yanqui a tope, propone un revisionismo sobre el Vietnam típico del cine de la era Reagan y bastantes de las escenas son directamente increibles (John Rambo parece inmortal, aunque al lado de muchas pelis de acción de hoy Rambo 2 parece cine realista) pero, seamos sinceros, entretiene una barbaridad y hace que hora y media se te pase volando entre tiros y explosiones, que es de lo que debe tratar el cine de acción.
