El comienzo es de serie B con autocine y hamburguesa, luego parece que vaya a ser una película de detectives recurriendo a un periodista de la tercera edad, posteriormente estamos ante una historia de fantasmas y necrofilia, y entonces entra en escena Olivia de Havilland -qué guapa y luego qué mala-, y al poco, y como si la trama ya no estuviese suficientemente tensada, se invierte la predisposición a juzgar negativamente a los personajes y se alcanza el final justiciero que permite equilibrar tanto barroquismo narrativo. Así pues, hemos pagado una entrada para ver varias películas. Magnífico negocio. Y de regalo, tras bajar el telón nos acosa toda la tarde en la memoria el sonsonete de una canción melosa de amor póstumo interpretada en un clavicordio ("Hush, hush..."). Arrebatadora y arrebatada, Bette Davis –qué ojos: Lunática y elegante, sureña y caprichosa, violenta y frágil, ridícula y grandiosa, qué pena que ya no estés. La muerte, la niveladora, se excede con personas así.
