- Synopsis
- Documentary that delves into the new therapies being tested to treat autism in children; a disease that, in any of its variants, hinders the patient's ability to relate to other people. In the 1940s it was believed that autistic people were profoundly retarded. Some time later, it has been shown that intelligence has nothing to do with it in most cases. More recent research has found that the neural connections in autistic people are different from those in a normal brain. These differences are genetically determined, although certain environmental factors may influence their development. Today, treatments such as exchange and development, re-education or imitation help these children to begin to open up to the world. Early diagnosis and specialized training for doctors, parents and educators help to understand these children and facilitate their inclusion in society.
