- Synopsis
- In 1914, the Panama Canal revolutionized world trade by linking the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. But behind this engineering feat lies a history of suffering and sacrifice that has remained hidden. The idea of connecting the two oceans through the heart of Central America was a dream pursued since the time of Christopher Columbus. At the end of the 19th century, the Frenchman Ferdinand de Lesseps tried to make it a reality, but failed by underestimating the enormous technical and human challenges. It was then that the United States, under the leadership of President Theodore Roosevelt, took control and succeeded in completing this monumental work, boosting its own trade and global power.
