Muchos críticos señalaron, en su momento, que esta película era la más deliciosa comedia romántica que habían visto en muchos años. Y es verdad, porque la ironía del realizador Billy Wilder constituye un excelente tamiz por el que pasa esta comedia de corte sentimental, con la presencia de una moraleja final. El argumento de "Sabrina" se basa en la obra de Samuel Taylor. La película ganó el óscar relativo al mejor vestuario en blanco y negro, y fue nominada al mejor director, actriz, guión, y fotografía en blanco y negro.

Sabrina (Audrey Hepburn) es la hija del chófer de los Larrabee, una familia de millonarios americanos. Está perdidamente enamorada de David Larrabee (William Holden), un joven bastante inmaduro e irresponsable, que no la corresponde. Por ello, tras un intento de suicidio, Sabrina viaja a París, donde asiste a clases de cocina. Cuando años después regresa a la mansión de los Larrabee, se ha convertido en una bellísima y fascinante mujer de tal forma que su antiguo amor se rinde ahora a su encanto. Sin embargo, Sabrina eligirá como marido al mayor de los Larrabee, Linus (Humphrey Bogart), que siempre ha tenido un mayor grado de sensatez que su hermano. Así,como se ve, esta película tiene muchas connotaciones con el célebre cuento de "La Cenicienta".
