A father of Mayan origins and his son Natan spend their last days together before Natan returns to live with his Italian mother in Rome. Spending their days at sea, their relationship grows as they connect with life above and below the surface of the sea.

Alamar cuenta la historia de un padre que busca a su hijo a Italia para llevarlo a México a pasar un tiempo con él. Muestra el contraste de la vida en la ciudad y una vida mas tranquila rodeado, para y por la naturaleza.

Más allá de la importancia de la naturaleza en este documental, la historia también muestra, quizá sin querer, las características de las nuevas familias. Unos padres separados emocionalmente y geográficamente, hacen que el documental desarrolle lo difícil de criar a un hijo cuando los padres no se ven. Y lo más difícil es hacerlo cuando los ideales son diferentes. Esto se muestra desde el comienzo. La madre de Natan dice "yo no podía vivir en su mundo y el (el padre de Natan) en el mio. Eramos infelices en el mundo del otro". Con estas palabras el documental adquiere un contenido dramático inigualable. Y se subraya cuando Jorge tiene que explicarle a Natan que el siempre va a estar. Por mas que los separe todo un mar.
