Esta película muestra el proceso de enamoramiento de manera tan sencilla y concisa que consigue que nos identifiquemos íntimamente con la historia. ¿Por qué un ama de casa, atractiva, pero en realidad corriente como otros miles de seres humanos, se convierte de pronto en un ser sin el que no podemos vivir? ¿Por qué a ella le sucede lo mismo con ese médico al que tampoco parece destacarle gran cosa del resto de los hombres? Estas preguntas no tienen respuesta, porque el enamoramiento es algo misterioso y nos sorprende cuando menos lo esperamos.

Luego, después de ese fulminante encuentro que los ilumina, la pareja sufre el acoso de los remordimientos. Remordimientos y culpa por un amor que no llegarán nunca a consumar, y por unos compromisos adquiridos en el pasado, que les llevan a renunciar al que quizás sería el amor de sus vidas. Y entonces la desesperación y el vacío estarán a punto de empujar a esa bella y sencilla ama de casa a las vías del tren, para intentar frenar el terrible dolor. El dolor de resignarse a vivir con un hombre al que quiere -su marido- pero al que no ama.
Muy triste historia -sobre todo para el que haya vivido algo similar alguna vez-, y emocionante.
Los andenes, el humo de los trenes que enturbia el aire frío, la música, ese blanco y negro que nos hace viajar al pasado...
Pocas veces una película ha reflejado tan bien la especie de mundo mágico que rodea a una pareja de enamorados, en contraste con el aire vulgar que adquieren de repente las conversaciones de conocidas -que no amigas- o personas con las que no podemos sincerarnos.
Y sin embargo las palabras de ese ser amado adquieren de repente un valor único, aunque hable de cosas que hasta un minuto antes nunca nos habían interesado.
