Thriller
Graham Marshall already celebrates his anxiously awaited promotion in an advertising company, when he learns that Roger Benham, one of his subordinates, will be promoted instead of him. Frustrated that his hated life will never change, he starts a cunning ploy to take bloody revenge on everyone who humiliated him - starting with his unnerving wife.

No me ha sacado demasiadas risas pero la sensación de presencia de humor negro en la cinta es constante, el cinismo de Caine siempre merece atención.

Presenciamos el incómodo revés que le asesta la vida a un hombre con carisma y que no conoce el fracaso pero que conoce demasiado bien lo que es la frustración de la monotonía de coger todos los días el transporte público para ir a trabajar y que tiene por esposa a una bruja que solo quiere su dinero. La situación parece estar a punto de cambiar para Caine, pero el puesto es para el otro, el que más estúpido y fanfarrón parece. Toda la vida desaprovechada en aras de una mujer que no le quiere y en un trabajo donde no se le valora. Ante esa encrucijada el 99% se hundiría, pero él no, trata de hacer algo al respecto. Primero vino el desahogo. Causar la muerte de un imbécil indeseable que considera escoria le sube la adrenalina (como bien él mismo reconoce en los comentarios de voz en off que van ilustrando la narración con sus reflexiones, pensamientos e impresiones) y la fácil impunidad le anima a proseguir con su protocolo de eliminación de aquellos que le están comiendo el terreno. Espeluznante el momento en el que lo prepara todo para que su mujer se electrocute de manera casual. Él estaba ahí mismo, delante de ella, dispuesto a presenciar la tragedia. Al igual que su risa, de sincera felicidad y alegría cuando le comunican por teléfono que la segunda vez la cosa sí había resultado bien. El entierro, otro momentazo, Caine, la suegra y el perro dando el último adiós.¿No dices nada?, salta la otra. Y este se sacó un discurso escueto pero solemne, después abre la urna para esparcir las cenizas de la difunta, sopla el viento con la mala suerte de que se vuelven hacia él. Las escupe ante la indignada mirada de la suegra. Luego el detective insiste preguntando que por qué no había polvo en el cable que mató a su mujer, y Caine, tras una magistral vacilación, da una sencilla respuesta sin temblarle un solo músculo. Prueba superada. Pero ahora está ese hijoputa del nuevo jefe que le está jodiendo vivo y le deja psicológicamente en ridículo al ser más joven y haber alcanzado mucho más que Caine, desprendiendo una prepotencia sutil, casi involuntaria pero hiriente como muy bien refleja el filme. Caine elabora un plan, provisto de un par sencillos y concretos pasos, sí, pero de una efectividad brutal. A mí en la vida se me hubiera ocurrido algo similar y hace que noventa veces se merecería esta película robarle el título a aquella de Douglas, 'Un crimen perfecto'. Todo sale según lo planeado, con una precisión milimétrica además, pero Caine tiene mala suerte en un detalle y el poli que antes se confirmó con la primera respuesta que se le pasó a este por la cabeza se ha vuelto más perseverante. Cuando todo apunta a que su amante le va a delatar, y este a matarla en un arrebato de cólera (se da el idéntico escenario a donde Caine causó su primera muerte) todo se resuelve de manera pacífica y muy fructuosa para nuestro amigo pues tal y como indica en la voz de off, nunca le delató porque sentía su poder (el de él). Y como la suerte está de lado del atrevido, el único testigo posible que podría tirar a Caine murió. Y el policía tenía presentimientos ciertos pero no podía demostrar nada. Y yo encantado de que todo esto se exponga con franqueza en el filme y de que el cínico Caine se haya salido con la suya. Porque lo hizo, recuperó su dignidad.
