Ni siquiera un duelo entre dos titanes del género como son Vincent Price y Boris Karloff pueden salvar esta adaptación del relato de Poe. No he leído éste, pero me da la impresión de que el escritor no introdujo tanto humor ni tanta tontería. Peter Lorre parece memo, los truquitos de magia son simpáticos, pero nada más; y, para colmo, la historia parece ideada para niños, con un Erasmus Craven como mago muy, muy bueno y un Scarabus malo, pero malísimo. La única curiosidad es ver a un joven Jack Nicholson como ya sucediera en "El terror", además de a dos bellas damiselas.
