Si la religión es un culto a imágenes, al menos en su aspecto exterior, ¿Por qué Buñuel no iba a manejar los símbolos como elemento de ataque a la religión y sus etiquetas?. Una película compleja, necesariamente hay que verla más de dos veces para poder hablar de ella aunque sea un poquito. Coproducida por dos países típicamente religiosos, es notable el "atrevimiento" que se tuvo en 1961 al exhibirla.
