TV Series. Western. Drama
TV Series (2018-2024). 6 Seasons. The series follows the Dutton family, owners of the largest ranch in Montana, the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch, commonly called "the Yellowstone". The plot revolves around family drama at the ranch and the bordering Broken Rock Indian Reservation, national park, and developers.

El drama creado por Taylor Sheridan es lo que los amantes de las series/telenovelas tipo Dinastia (la versión original, no el remake) estábamos esperando y en esta ocasión Sheridan sí acierta. Su cinta Wind River fue muy aclamada, pero yo me aburrí una barbaridad. Ahora puedo decir que me tiene en sus manos, completamente enganchada a la familia Dutton, que nos va a dar más de un disgusto y más de una sorpresa. La banda sonora que acompaña los distintos episodios es una maravilla creada por Brian Tyler, compositor de algunas partituras famosas como Constantine, Iron Man 3, Fast & Furious o Rambo (entre otras). Los lugares del rodaje son Montana y Utah (y son sitios espectaculares; tanto, que dan ganas de hacer las maletas e irte a vivir al rancho). El casting es muy bueno, porque incluso los que al principio no te caen demasiado bien o crees que no les pega su papel, al final piensas…venga, ¡era para este!, ¡brutal!

La historia se centra en John Dutton y su enorme rancho, que linda con el territorio de los nativos (y que quieren recuperar), pero también con los nuevos compradores –blancos, en este caso- de tierras en las que quieren construir. Todo esto sumado a las constantes disputas con sus hijos (que son unos cuantos) y con los que no lo son. Una familia desestructurada completamente y manipulada para tener cada vez más poder (que no más dinero), o para, al menos, mantener lo que ya es suyo. La verdad es que un guion más complicado de lo que parece a simple vista y mezcla muy bien los momentos de violencia, con los de amor, pasión, tensión y política. Todos los protagonistas tienen un papel fundamental y una historia que contarnos para saber porqué las cosas son como son. Tiene algún momento de pérdida de sentido total o que todavía no se ha explicado, sobre todo con el papel de Kevin Costner , pero se perdona porque al minuto pasa algo que hace que te medio olvides de esos despistes del guion.
La primera temporada es sólo el principio porque es en la segunda donde se desarrollan las historias principales; es en esta donde conocemos a los protagonistas un poquito más. La primera parte es muy general (al menos para mi gusto). Claro, si me pongo así, esto podría durar como esas viejas series de los ochenta y de los noventa, que te tenían tonto durante cientos de episodios con los dramones de cada uno.
Después de la segunda no haría falta nada más, pero reconozco que no me puedo aguantar las ganas, aunque signifique que puedan estropear los diecinueve primeros capítulos.
Kevin Costner, que no necesita presentación, es el patriarca. Está fantástico y no es la primera vez que le vemos en un rancho. Su John joven es Josh Lucas (American Psycho, A Beatiful Mind).
Luke Grimes (American Sniper, Cincuenta Sombras de Grey) es Kayse Dutton; de los hermanos es el que más se rebela contra su padre. Aun así, también son los más parecidos. Es un personaje interesante y va gustando más cuanto más avanza todo.
Kelly Reilly es Beth Dutton, educada y preparada para destruir todo lo que se ponga en su camino (tanto financiera como personalmente); luego te va enganchando su forma de ser y con el paso del tiempo la vas entendiendo un poco mejor.
Wes Bentley (American Horror Story, American Beauty) es Jasmie Dutton; sorprende que su papel sea, aparentemente, el del eslabón más débil. La relación con su hermana es terrible. Especialmente por parte de Beth, que le lleva a límites insospechados hasta para el propio Jamie.
Mi favorito, Cole Hauser (The Cave), como Rip Wheeler. Al principio pensaba que me gustarían más Jamie o Kayse, pero no, mi corazón en el tercer episodio se quedó con Rip. Capataz del rancho, cuando conocemos su trágica y dura historia y cómo se hace un tío leal y noble para quién le ha adoptado (no literalmente, pero sí vive con los Dutton desde que pasó lo de su familia) y su relación con Beth, le convierten en un osito amoroso (es verdad, no es tan amoroso con el resto o con los que quieren quedarse con el rancho, pero…no se puede ser bueno con todos).
Recomiendo verla. Es una gozada. Los caballos, los vaqueros y el resto de personajes, como Kelsey Asbill (Mónica Dutton) o Danny Huston (30 días de oscuridad) y que aquí Dan Jenkins y que están metidísimos en sus papeles. Las historias se van a ir sucediendo y no te vas a aburrir. Ni siquiera con el primer episodio que dura lo mismo que una película.
