Realmente, es una de las pocas películas que logran tener atento al espectador desde el primer minuto.
Sin embargo, Lynch, deja de ser brillante en el momento en el que cualquier persona dice: "Me estoy perdiendo."
Y, sobre todo, pierde la brillantez cuando, al ver aparecer los créditos, la gente dice: "No sé muy bien lo que ha pasado."
Un director, por muy bueno que sea fabricando metáforas, no puede desarrollar un proyecto empapado en sus metáforas, sólo decodificables por las pistas que él mismo de. La película debería darlas por sí misma y no necesitarlo a él, antes o después, para dar relevancia a lo que va a marcar las inflexiones verdaderamente importantes de la película.
Así como en Dune, que abusa de comentarios en off hasta para decir que alguien está escupiendo porque, si no, no hay dios que se entere, aquí la voz en off son sus explicaciones posteriores.
Le falta un poquito de Stanley, Lasse Hallstrom ó del propio Eastwood, que jamás han necesitado explicar más de lo que se ve en la película. Como Eyes Wide Sut, por ejemplo.

En una excelente maniobra, la cabecita de Diane, reúne todos los elementos de su día a día y fabrica un sueño de vuelta a empezar donde ayuda a su novia a saber quién es. Todo fruto del desengaño y del arrepentimiento por contratar a un asesino para que la mate.
