Synopsis
5 billion people own a cell phone. More than half of them have access to the Internet. Millions of messages, images and videos circulate daily on social networks around the world, from dictatorships to consolidated democracies. A perfect weapon of social organization in which it is difficult to distinguish between real and fake content. The battle to take control over the truth has begun. This documentary analyzes, as an example, the illegal referendum in Catalonia and its reach in the media. Are social networks a threat to democracy and our electoral systems? Are they the new mass media? States are beginning to fear freedom of expression. This freedom has facilitated the spread of "fake news", endangering global stability. It is predicted that by 2022 they will already occupy 50% of all online content. How do the mainstream media avoid falling into fake news? Do they detect it? Do they spread it?
