Synopsis
A documentary dedicated to his family in the 70s, to The Irishman, a river testament signed in 2019, Martin Scorsese has never stopped questioning his origins. Beyond its recurring themes (gangsterism, redemption, exaggerated masculinity, etc.), the fate of the Italian community in the United States is such a tenacious obsession that it covers all of his work: even when he is not filming the mafia, Scorsese mourns the ideal of his ancestors who came looking for a dream in America, and only found it at the cost of violence. This makes him an unsuspected filmmaker-historian, with a romanticism as beautiful, bitter and deep as that of John Ford when he filmed the Irish emigrants to the West.
