Synopsis
From Kiev to Havana passing through Mumbai, Beirut, or even Phnom Penh, the filmmaker/photographer Antoine d'Agata, chased by the demons of sex and drugs, captures the conversations and images of the prostitutes he visits. Always at night, in hotel rooms or shanty towns, bathrooms or hammams, in empty streets, these women evoque the voice of their solitude, their relation to desire and towards men, their fear of life, death, and sickness. They let the filmmaker film his sex with them, them masturbating, their narcotic highs and their violent comedowns. A vision of a marginal world as deranged as it is neccessary, where the flesh appears as the only remedy against death. A film above all a strange autobiography of the artist, confronted with his role as filmmaker, to his addiction, and finally to the vanity of himself as "useless witness".
