- Synopsis
- This is the story of the battle for power in Mexico; the story of a man who challenged his country´s institutions by proclaiming himself legitimate president. This is the story of an unexpected defeat and of how the controversial Andrés Manuel López Obrador –who led the polls during four years and received more that 14 million votes on July 2nd 2006– lost the election by half a percentage point. The camera follows, for more than 20 months, one of the most controversial Mexican politicians. It started filming while he was still Mexico City’s mayor (in spring 2005), through his self proclamation as legitimate president, and his actions during the first days of the new government, led by Felipe Calderón, in 2007. For the first time in Mexican history, a politician allowed an independent film crew to observe his steps and the obstacles encountered in the eye of the storm.
