Bellísima película en la que se puede ver el desarrollo cultural de China en estos últimos 30 años, a través de una de sus familias. Cambios culturales, sociales, económicos... y familiares. Relata con dura poesía la relación entre un padre maltratado por sus "compatriotas" y su hijo, que de repente ve como su vida placentera y juvenil se termina. Con una grandísima banda sonora y una fotografía sobresaliente, esta historia familiar e histórica, se va desarrollando poco a poco como las hojas de un girasol.
