Tenía unas altas expectativas puestas en este film y quizá por eso me ha decepcionado. Se me ha hecho muy larga, y es la prueba evidente de que no me ha convencido. Me gusta mucho el papel de Fernán Gómez y del niño “gorrión”. La representación de aquella escuela de la república y de la vida en el pequeño pueblo, se agradece. Pero la película se va en ciertos momentos por unas ramas innecesarias, que hacen que decaiga mucho, cuando el tema es muy interesante, y podría haberse extendido más y haber sido jugosísimo.

Sin embargo, aparece de manera innecesaria la historia de la hija bastarda y su affaire sin sentido con el perro, terminando en el asesinato final al can. ¿Qué pinta esto en la película? ¿Y qué nos aporta el hermano músico y su historia con la china? Se pierde mucho tiempo en estas dos historias que no vienen al caso. Por otra parte, agradezco la forma de dar clase del maestro, pero podría haber elegido a otros poetas, no siempre al mismo. Y mira que me encanta Machado. Pero he de reconocer que el final, con esa familia insultando a los republicanos solo por aparentar, y ese niño incluido, es triste y desgarrador. Pero a la vez, emocionante.
