Esta película lo único que tiene destacable ser el primer film sonoro. Tiene un arranque desigual hasta que ocurre el hecho histórico. Es fácil deducir como se quedaría la gente de aquella época. Aunque hubo intentos anteriores este es el oficialmente el primer film sonoro. Al Jolson hace un trabajo aceptable pero uno no se quita la sensación que solo hace el trabajo para cantar y hacer historia.
