Film noir. Mystery. Thriller
Roy 'Mad Dog' Earle is broken out of prison by an old associate who wants him to help with an upcoming robbery. When the robbery goes wrong and a man is shot and killed Earle is forced to go on the run, and with the police and an angry press hot on his tail he eventually takes refuge among the peaks of the Sierra Nevadas, where a tense siege ensues. But will the Police make him regret the attachments he formed with two women during the brief planning of the robbery. [+]

Si "El último refugio" es la película que impulsó la carrera de Bogart, entonces hay que ponerla en un pedestal. Si George Raft renunció interpretar al personaje de Roy Earle, entonces hay que darle las gracias, ya que Bogart lo hizo de maravilla.
Pocas veces se observa en un film un gángster como el de Roy Early. No es una mala bestia, la cárcel le cambió, ahora Roy sólo quiere dar un último golpe, y tal vez, si tiene suerte dejar el negocio y casarse con la joven granjera a la que ama.
Humphey Bogart dotó al personaje de Roy Early de más profudidad de la que jamás le hubiera dado George Raft. Gracias por rechazar ese papel George, Rick Blaine te lo agradecerá eternamente.
