No he leído el libro de Saramago, supongo que será mejor que su versión cinematográfica la cual está presidida por una absoluta dejadez argumental en el que la incoherencia se apropia del relato desde su inicio. “A ciegas” parte de una premisa interesante pero muy mal desarrollada, el sentido no existe en ningún momento y los sucesos que van apareciendo se narran torpemente sin mostrar en ningún momento una estructura que vaya consolidando el relato. Ya su inicio es considerablemente pobre, mal narrado y mal interpretado, el primer indicio de ceguera se manifiesta frío, no existe la tensión porque su protagonista es incapaz de trasmitirla, los contagios que le siguen son descritos superficialmente y se centran en el dúo Ruffalo-Moore que son llevados a unas lamentables instalaciones que parecen un Campo de concentración en el que las autoridades se limitan a abandonar a las víctimas de los contagios. Resulta que tienen un gravísimo problema y en lugar de buscar soluciones e investigar, las entierran, primer síntoma de que algo va mal en esta película.

Todo lo que le sigue es sencillamente un disparate irracional, de todas la víctimas de la ceguera nos queda la Moore como única persona inmune al “virus” o causa que lo provoca porque nada se dice al respecto, en lugar de mostrar interés por su inmunidad y por tanto intentar buscar a alguna persona que indague en su situación, ya que ella representa una posible solución no sólo para todos los afectados sino especialmente por su marido se limita a ejercer de criada del grupo. Así se van sucediendo los minutos, las consecuencias reales de la ceguera son apartadas del relato y el director centra en la absurda y evidente falta de adaptación de los afectados a su nueva situación. Y eso es todo lo que podemos esperar, suciedad y supervivencia en una especie de cárcel sin sentido donde nadie busca respuestas, a nadie le preocupa buscar una solución, algo imposible de creer, la única persona capaz de ver se limita a ser una oveja en el rebaño, en lugar de ejercer el liderato que apoya su ventajosa situación, se deja manipular y violar por grupos vandálicos que a pesar de estar en menguados por su discapacidad no parecen tener oposición a la hora de establecer un régimen dictatorial. Así continúan pasando los minutos sin aportar matices de interés reseñables, los minutos pasan y como no parece que tengan mucha idea de cómo acabar esto ¿qué hacen? Pues de repente uno dice “Oh! puedo ver , es maravilloso, qué guapa eres”, increíble pero cierto, este es el final del relato, absurdo y estúpido como pocos.
