Fargo es alabada por casi la totalidad de la crítica, y francamente no me parece para tanto. Más allá de las actuaciones, que son espléndidas (en particular la de Frances McDormand), y lo novedoso, por decir algo, del marco de la película (que es novedoso por ser aburrido), el guión me parece bastante soso. No lo sé, quedé bastante decepcionado.

Jerry es un vendedor de coches endeudado que necesita dinero, y ya. Para ello contrata a dos criminales para que secuestren a su mujer y así poder pedir un rescate. Esto sale horriblemente mal: en la huída, el más imprevisible y desalmado de los dos mata a un policía y a un par de testigos, y es entonces cuando la embarazadísima Marge Gunderson, policía de un pequeño pueblecito de Minnesota debe encargarse del caso. Y... es que poco más, en realidad: todo se descontrola aún más cuando el padre de la secuestrada decide tomar cartas en el asunto y es liquidado también, y Steve Buscemi acaba patas arriba en una máquina trituradora de madera. Pero Marge consigue salvar a la señora, detener a todos los culpables, y volver a casa con su marido tranquilamente.
