Comedy Giovanni peddles useless pens in the streets of Rome with his sidekick Francesco. He has, however, a daughter who studies in a college and thinks he is a rich industrialist. The girl falls in love with a rich boy and when her father tells her the truth about their financial situation she leaves her fiancee and refuses food. Luckily the boy's parents give their assent to the marriage all the same.
