- Synopsis
- ‘Rauch und Spiegel’ transforms a trapeze routine into a stage trick, a music box automaton, a mesmerising carousel and a kaleidoscopic chronometer. The film celebrates the sensuality of the trapeze artist's balletic movements and her athletic power, but it also uses the moving image and the moving body to recontextualise one another. Director Nick Moore explores the dynamic interaction of the body in motion with the kinetics of the moving image and the resonances of intertextual audio. Cinema meets circus where slight-of-hand and spectacle.
