- Synopsis
- “Sadie: Belly Dance Beyond the Glitter” gives us an intimate look at the 20 yearlong career of Sadie Marquardt, who is one of the most sought-after belly dancers of her time. In this open narrative, Sadie unveils our eyes to the stark realities of what it is to be a wife, mother and an international brand, in one of the world’s most misunderstood art forms. We discuss her rise to the status of “The Queen of the Drum Solo” and how she has held that title for many years. We explore the blurred lines between the self- expression and self –obsession, coming to terms with one's body vs. becoming obsessed with it and the freedoms and pressures that come with being considered one of best belly dancers in the world. We get a glimpse into Sadie’s international reach during her 2016 world tour in Europe and India. And follow her first visit to Egypt to experience the culture that is widely credited to be the birthplace of oriental dance.
