Synopsis

Ana Paucha, who called herself Ana, was a woman of the sea, of the sun, of happiness, in love with her husband, a fisherman, and her three children. The husband and the two eldest sons died in the war, the youngest is a prisoner. Ana, seventy-five years old, closes the door of her house in a small village in Almeria and decides to walk to her son's prison to embrace him and give him the oil bread she has kneaded with her own hands. An unsettling journey to the north of Spain, a journey of love and death, of initiation and knowledge. The novel offers us one of the most beautiful female characters in contemporary literature, as well as an admirable allegory of the human condition.
