- The realities of the obesity and diabetes epidemic in Mexico to date are staggering: 500,000 deaths in the past six years and 75,000 amputations and 80,000 deaths each year. The documentary 'Sweet Agony: The Toll of Junk Food' tells the story of Don Gonzalo,a public transport driver who was diagnosed with diabetes.His story is interwoven with testimonies of patients from different parts of Mexico and interviews with national and international experts, who warn that this epidemic is collapsing the national health system.
