- Synopsis
- Brian Fitzgerald "Fitzcarraldo", an eccentric and megalomaniac businessman obsessed with opera, has been losing his prestige and fortune in absurd ventures with no future. His latest project is to build an opera house in a Peruvian village on the banks of the Amazon; to raise the capital necessary to finance such a grand enterprise, he dedicates himself to the rubber trade. His extravagant plan requires taking a large riverboat out of the river and transporting it to the top of a mountain.
