- Synopsis
- Juan Goytisolo’s curiosity for the province of Almeria at the end of the 50s led him to examine its reality more closely, and he discovered a terrible social reality behind the beautiful landscapes. At that time Almeria was one of the poorest provinces in Spain. This duality of feelings caused him to write two books, “Campos de Níjar” and “La Chanca”, in which Goytisola, struggling with the Francoist censorship, shows a reality radically different from the tourist propaganda with which Franco’s regime tried to hide the poverty.
